Question by Dad: Is your Thanks-giving date a Turkey?
Mine will be a chicken ;-)

In 2001, when I first visited the United States, I heard of this holiday called “Thanks-giving” and wondered what it meant to the citizen of the United States. It wasn’t too long until I learned Thanks-giving is a traditional North American holiday, which is a form of harvest festival.

It was also the first time I ever saw a bird so huge, baked and stuffed on my Aunt’s table on the fourth Thursday in November. . And quite honestly, I was very desperate to taste it. My mouth was extremely watery :-)

Unfortunately, I wasn’t pleased with the taste of the huge bird ( the Turkey) and I didn’t bother to finish my plate. But my Aunt baked about 6 or so chickens nevertheless, which I enjoyed so much.

So, each year when it is time to celebrate Thanks-giving, I would make sure my chicken is prepared and suited up for me ;-)

What about you, do you rather bake Chicken instead of Turkey when celebrating Thanks-giving day?

    you eat a lot and be thankful for what you have its a good tradition to have right before Christmas because there kinda related exept no presents just so much food (mainly turkey) that you blow up lol

    How can you not love turkey?? I eat chicken almost every day, and it’s no big deal. I only get to eat turkey on special occasions and I look fwd to it. Yummy! Maybe your aunt didn’t cook it right…

    When I first read your question I though NO my thanksgiving day is everyday as it should be with everyone but then I read on down to see what you really wanted for an answer.

    Yes I do like turkey and we do have it. I either go to my brother’s home or my husband’s sister’s home on Thanksgiving day. But my favorite food of the day is the dressing I make (my momma taught me how to make it). Chicken and dressing. I like chicken better than turkey. And I like ham. Now on Christmas we had made it a tradition at my mom’s to have a good ole Louisiana gumbo supper. Now that see has passed away I don’t see that happening until my brother moves up in to her house in a few years. Then we can start that tradition back up. Below is a copy of my dressing recipe in case anyone would like it. I tell you it taste great. I promise!!

    Happy Thanksgiving

    Chicken and Cornbread Dressing
    (GREAT FOR HOLIDAYS)
    1 large hen or chicken
    3 cups crumbled bread (day old)
    6 cups crumbled cornbread (not sweet)
    2 large onions, chopped
    1/2 cup green onion tops, chopped
    1/2 cup chopped bell pepper
    1 cup celery, chopped
    7 eggs (raw)
    2 cups milk (I use evap. milk)
    5 cans cream of chicken soup
    salt and pepper (I don’t salt, I use chicken bullion cubes adds more flavor to broth.)
    Preheat oven 375 degrees. Cook chicken until tender in seasoned water, then de-bone. In saucepan, combine 1 !/2 cups of the broth made from boiling chicken, onions, celery and green bell pepper and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until vegetables are tender. In large mixing bowl mix chicken, breads, broth/vegetable mixture: add eggs, milk and salt and pepper. Mix well and bake in a large, greased baking dish. Bake 375 degrees for 45 minutes or until knife comes out of center clean. Serves 10 – 12. (freezes great too before cooking)
