To rent a car you need to be 18 yrs old and have a driving license and most of the times credit card. they are some rent car that ask for a deposit of US0-700 dollars. and to also leave your passport with them if you don’t have the credit car.
driving in santo Domingo the city (it is a headache).
maybe you wanna watch some videos so you can have an idea about driving in DR.

First you need to a have a license (UK) so you need to be 18 years old. Driving in the Dominican Republic is totally different from the way we driving in Europe! I don’t advise the tourist (specially young ones) to drive here it is SPECIAL !!
Also you must know when you’re involved in a accident you need to have a good knowledge of the Spanish language, other while you gonna loose a lot of money (not only at the spot). So if you do, be very carefully in your driving!!!!
Hiring a vehicle is all depending de size of the car/jeep, but you must think about +/- 45 euros per day without the gasoline ( 170 Rd’s/gallon).
Anyway enjoy your Holiday!
You can probably rent a car without a problem. Your problem will be driving here with all the UNCIVILIZED Dominicans who have no respect for anything.
If you think I am kidding let me tell you a little story. I was driving down a highway and got rear ended by a motorcycle. Driver had NO INSURANCE and NO LICENSE. I hired a lawyer, had my car impounded for the night and ended up having to pay that piece of crap Dominican 500 Pesos. The cops and the judges and the total government is CROOKED and should all be in JAIL along with 99% of the population.
I figure there must be 1% of decent people here.
I live here and have a Dominican Passport but if you happen to be WHITE it is worse than being BLACK in the Southern United States 50 years ago.
There is NO laws that apply to protect you here. You may end up in jail even if you are right.
Take a freakin cab!
