Going from UK to USA on holiday want to take my mobile phone?

Question by florayg: Going from UK to USA on holiday want to take my mobile phone?
I was wondering how I find out about cost of using it ( I’m on contract with Orange) for calls inside USA and texts to and from UK. Would I be better to buy a cheap pay-as-you-go as I am worried about losing it can anyone who has done this advise me? thank you

You have to check with Orange by calling customer service to get the roaming cost for the USA, and verify your phone (handset) & service plan will work in the USA. Ask about international calling/roaming plans that might save you money.

You also need a plug adapter to charge your phone in the USA. Chargers almost always accept any voltage, but the UK and USA have different style outlets. It will be a lot easier to find a USA adapter in the UK than in the USA.

If you expect to make very many calls within the USA it will certainly cost less if you buy a prepaid USA phone after arrival. Roaming costs are usually quite high. You > may < be able to get a prepaid phone handset that is the same brand as your home handset and use it to charge your UK phone.
