Bill Alexander paints Holiday Mountain part 2/3 wet on wet oil painting art

www.alexanderart.com William (Bill) Alexander was born in 1915 in East Prussia. As a youth he used his artistic talents to paint carriages and murals for local aristocrats. After the war, Bill and his family immigrated to North America to pursue their dream of building a home and to share Bills gift of painting. Bill and his wife, Margaret, traveled throughout the United States and Canada teaching painting and making friends, often selling paintings to meet living expenses along the way. During this time Bill worked hard to develop his wet-on-wet technique and products. He developed the base medium Magic White, extra-thick oil paints, and special palette knives and brushes. These products work together to help artists, even a beginning artist, create beautiful scenes on the canvas. By 1974, when he completed his first Emmy-winning Magic of Oil painting television show, Bills dream had become a reality. He had built himself a home in North America a home in the hearts of thousands who discovered with Bills help that they could have the almighty power to fire in and be happy painters too. Today, Bill continues to teach the world to paint through his television shows available on DVD.

does anyone know if you use mediums when you make the mountains

  2. 88riddlemethis Aug 20th 2011

@ecisme10 Art doesn’t have to be right. It’s whatever you feel. You take the fun away from it when you start geting so technical. At least that’s my opinion.

  3. djdavy007 Aug 20th 2011

nice painting, but thumbs up if you’ve noticed he is putting in the shadows on the wrong sides of the trees.

  4. HanaPainting Aug 20th 2011

  5. ecisme10 Aug 20th 2011

What kills me is that he changed his light source! Mountains getting lit from one side, trees getting lit from the other…ugh.

  25. madtrashmax77 Aug 21st 2011

    @Ms9a9a

me too ! in my opinion the trees are not so good at all. the mountain was awesome but then he overloaded the painting with orange and green

  26. mattlouv Aug 21st 2011

Bill goes hard in the paint.

  27. crazykidscall911 Aug 21st 2011

I really like all of the colors !

  28. Meatbagz Aug 21st 2011

@UraharaItsumo The early seasons of Ross’ show give credit to Alexander for developing the technique and mentoring Ross.

  29. CHROLOLUCIFER1 Aug 21st 2011

Love this guy~Happy all the time….we need more of this,in this world:-)

  30. stymye Aug 21st 2011

Everyone needs to remember, In the art community, this is called ” the Alexander Wet-on-Wet Technique” Bob Ross sold it to the masses, that’s all.
Alexander took more time , created much more detail, and he is easier to learn from.

  31. rhinobarrows Aug 21st 2011

I love to watch him when I’m in a angry frame of mind beacuse watch him and hearing him talk calms me like my dead grandfather would talk to me while doing a crossword puzzle.

  32. DannyBoy443 Aug 21st 2011

Bob Ross’ long lost brother. Love it. ……..I steal art!!

  33. DallasJScott Aug 21st 2011

The impression that most people have that Ross “betrayed” Alexander by presenting his technique as his own is false. If you watch his early episodes, he gives credit to Alexander from which he learned the technique. Just because you read something on Wikipedia doesn’t mean it’s true. Do your own research before coming up with incorrect presumptions.

  34. artisanrox Aug 21st 2011

How can I forget The Almighty Paintbrush!!! And White Magic!! :D Loved Bill Alexander’s shows, they were the BEST!

  35. rshujaat Aug 21st 2011

    amazing… beautiful…lovely…artistic!!!!

  36. Giant2700 Aug 21st 2011

    he is the best painter…

  37. UraharaItsumo Aug 21st 2011

Ross was Bill’s protege, and he “betrayed” him, by making his art famous and taking credit for him. However true that is or whatnot,
    I like Ross better.

  38. mackicoA090211 Aug 21st 2011

“If I smile at the canvas, the canvas smiles back.”

    This guy is my hero.

Oh, Bill was a German from East Prussia, I didn’t know that.

That Explains his strange accent (this accent is almost gone in modern Germany).

  41. cmustac Aug 21st 2011

  47. GoldDraconian Aug 21st 2011

@induchaya As I understand it (and I haven’t done any fact-checking so apologies if I’m mistaken), Bob Ross actually learned from Bill Alexander, so it’s the other way around.

  48. induchaya Aug 21st 2011

i think this guy copy from bob roos style
