Better of the three as a hockey goalie — Peyton Manning, LeBron James, or Derek Jeter?

Question by noah > U: Better of the three as a hockey goalie — Peyton Manning, LeBron James, or Derek Jeter?
Perhaps the best hockey question that I ever asked…

————-

Today begins the official Noah Holiday Madness Adventure. So, with that, I will take this time to wish all Happy Holidays, and please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2008, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make Canada and America great. Not to imply that Canada or America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only places worth living in the Western Hemisphere. Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee.

Cheers…

As an INDY native…. I got to go with Peyton… just cause he is the most prepared athlete I have ever seen play any game ever. He is so detail oriented and studies the game of his opponents like no one I have ever seen. JUST MY TAKE!

…and a return to you, from me, on your politically correct Season’s Greetings extension!

  1. I would say Jeter…Lebron is too tall, can’t get to those loose pucks fast enough on the ice,Peyton isn’t the most mobile QB ever so he will have his problems with speed and quickness..And Jeter, even though he was named the most overrated player in the majors last year,I would say would have a great glove hand.

Happy holiday to you too Noah..In fact, for you I flipped off a soccer mom who cut me off at the nearest mall.

Winter greetings to you as well.

I’ll bet you are a supporter of the great coalition forces here in Canada. Joined together in all things not to upset anyone except the bigoted right. (Their words not mine)

    Anyway to your question.
    1. I’ve seen where Peyton was born and grew up. The closest ice to his neighbourhood is at Frank’s drive through Daiquiri stand. So I don’t think he would be much of a goalie.
    2. Le Bron on the other hand was born in Akron, Ohio. A city that is near and dear to my heart but I digress. Le Bron at 6′ – 8″ in height probably wears size 15 sneakers. While with feet like that he could probably make some spectacular toe saves. I don’t think we could get a pair of skates to fit him.
    3. Derek Jeter on the third hand grew up in Kalamazoo Michigan. The home of Elvis Presley’s 7-11. This is a hot bed of Michigan hockey with teams such as the K. Wings and the WMU Broncos playing to packed houses. So there is a good chance that young Derek might have played a little hockey as a child. At least he would have learned to skate.

    Therefore Jeter is my pick.

    Love and Peace,
    Tom

Peyton. Just because he’s larger than LeBron and Jeter.

  4. Mathew Jul 21st 2011

Jeter cuz a fast ball comes right at him and he could hit it so y cant he stop it?????

Manning and Lebron no they dont get balls thrown fast at them like 90-100 mph like jeter gets all the time in 162 games per year

    Tom

Lebron has a shoe size of 15………..Chara has a skate size of 15 and Boogaard’s is even larger.

We can find skates for Lebron if need be.

Welllll lets see I could analyze their career stats and some how come up with a deducted answer and explanation……..nahhhhh….I’ll take Jeter…he did Mariah Carey..yes,I realize this has nothing to do with hockey..

  7. SPACEBOY Jul 21st 2011

I’ll go with Lebron. I mean, wouldn’t he be covering 99% of the net just by standing there?

  8. I’d have to go with Peyton, just because he seems a little wacky like most goaltenders seem to be.

    Happiest of PC Holidays!

Well considering I don’t think LeBron has even been on skates in his life, I think that would eliminate him.

Peyton could be OK only because of the sheer size of his forehead and he could use it to stop a puck, but he definitely is not the most mobile guy in the world.

So that leaves Jeter. Albeit while he does get “balls” thrown at him at 90-100mph, we are not discussing his sexual orientation here, nor are we discussing Christmas, it would not be P.C., as Noah pointed out for us. So Jeter would win since he is very mobile and has great hand eye coordination, and as Joe stated, I’m sure he would have a wicked glove hand!!

I hope you also have a happy Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Festivus, or whatever it is that you do or do not celebrate is this particular or other time thoughout the Solar calendar, Lunar calendar, Lunisolar calendar, Christian calendar, Islamic calendar, Persian calendar, Jewish calendar, or whatever year.

I am a Brett Favre fan, but if I had to pick from your list….I’ll say Manning.

Good luck with your “special” Christmas plans. :)

derrick jeter, he is used to using a glove and his body to stop a small object traveling at a high rate of speed. and he is used to teh semi crouthed position already.

  12. PuckDat Jul 21st 2011

LOL – nice ramble there Noah (and so with the times) I got a good chuckle from it.

I’d go with Jeter because his skills as a shortstop would better translate into the goalie position. He’s used to moving to stop objects coming at him and he already has developed a good glove hand.
Manning’s job is about avoiding contact while trying to throw a ball. Neither relate to goaltending very well.
And LeBron is a super athlete but basketball is played in the air above the playing surface and hockey is quite the opposite.

  13. Tuna Spearer (Epick) Jul 21st 2011

    Hi

I believe James is the best pure athlete up there so I shall say him.

Merry Mutha F’n Christmas to you too!

    Thank You

  14. jbkimbrough Jul 21st 2011

def jeter, fast, quick on his feet, good hands, not too tall.
lebron is to muscular, you have to be skinny so your muscles won’t constrict any movement,
    same with peyton

the ideal goalie is a smaller, skinny guy, that’s is quick, everything that jeter is

  15. J.O- Go Devils!!! Jul 21st 2011

    Jeter golden glove.

    Have a Politically Correct Christmas.

  16. PlayboyPerry509 Jul 21st 2011

Haha. Happy Holidays to you too!

As for your question..I’d pick DJ…hes the best with a glove.

  17. Corrado's Nephew Jul 21st 2011

LeBron’s reflexes are much better than the other two.

  18. Peyton is a pylon, he’s out. (Helluva quarterback, though)

LeBron could be good…..except he’s too tall. Only his legs would be in front of the net, his body would be above the cross bar…a five hole the size of Texas….

Jeter – right size, quickness, all sorts of experience stopping projectiles heading his way…I think he’d be the best.

  19. Luber25 Jul 21st 2011

It has to be Jeter. None of the others would be able to match that glove hand.

    Happy Holidays to you too!
