The holiday period here in Italy is in August. I pick different places every year and spend a week or so before going back to the US to visit family during the month. The Czech republic is particularly nice in August. The weather isn’t quite so hot as here in Italy and it’s a beautiful country with a lot to see and do. Copenhagen is also great. I often stop for a few days in Amsterdam on the way to/from the US. This year should be especially good since the Sail 2010 event will be running – it’s a once every 5 years festival featuring tall ships and boats of all types (and lots of good food).

Of course, if you don’t live in Italy like I do, it’s also a good holiday destination. The tourist attractions are all open even if some businesses aren’t.

If you like sandy beaches, lazy lunches of gorgeous fresh fish or tasty meze, evenings dining under the stars, cooling mid-afternoon beers, and as much sunshine as you can handle, look at North Cyprus!

Yes, it will be hot, as all the Mediterranean islands are, but nothing you wouldn’t find in Florida, and without the humidity.

There’s plenty to do, too, from exploring ancient ruined town to scuba diving with turtles. See the websites below for ideas, cheap flights, and reliable North Cyprus hotel reviews.
