Belgium is known for a lot of good things. French Fries are actually Belgian Fries. The Belgian’s are known for their chocolate, beer, and as previously mentioned waffles. Belgium has a coast line on the North Sea and many people travel there to enjoy it. Some Cities that people like to visit in Belgium are Ghent, Brugge, Antwerp, and Brussels. Brussels is the capital of the European Union. The Trappist Monks that live in Belgium are world reknowned for their beer making and also brandy. Ghent Fest is a big festival as well as Rock Werchter which is an annual music festival in the village of Werchter in Belgium since 1974. The 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007 festivals received the Arthur award for best festival in the world at International Live Music Conference. I hope that is enough to get you going.

I am a Belgian and I love nearly everything about my country so it is difficult to make a list because it would take hours.
There are too many things to see, to visit, to eat, to drink…
too many to mention but you could check out a tourist book “Visit Belgium”, Lonely Planet “Belgium” , etc…
You’ll get all the info you need about food, drinks, leisure, interesting places to visit.
In a nutshell :
All regions of Belgium make different types of waffles.
Northern/ North West part of Belgium borders with the North Sea so most of the dishes are fish and seafood ;
tomates crevettes, croquettes de crevettes, (tomatoes with shrimps, shrimp croquettes deep fried), sole à la Ostendaise, all types of fish dishes.
Ghent has a very popular dish called : Waterzooi. This dish is a dish made with chicken cooked in stock, with tiny pieces of veggies and the whole thing has been thickened with cream.
In the Southern part (lots of forests and streams, 2 main rivers) : game and fish are on the menu.
Otherwise some dishes that you may find al over Belgium :
Desserts :
excellent ice-cream,
mousse au chocolat,
all sorts of pies (sugar pie, jam pie, fruit pie, etc…)
soufflé à la Mandarine Napoléon9type of ice cream made with a typical Belgian liqueur,
croquettes de crevettes,
croquettes au fromage,
tomates crevettes,
chicon au gratin (Belgian chicorée in cheese sauce),
vol-au-vent (chicken stew put into some fluffy pastry),
carbonnades flamandes (Flemish beef stew)
soles meunières ( sole fish in butter sauce),
St Pierre, cabillaud sauce mousseline (fish ),
moules frites (mussels),
tomates farcies (stuffed tomatoes with minced meat), boudins noir et blanc, purée de pomme de terre et compote de pomme, (white and black pudding sausages with mashed potatoes & applesauce)
steak frites (steak + French fries)
Note : French fries are in fact Belgium fries. Our neighbours copied us! Ours are thicker – soft inside and crunchy/crispy on the outside – whereas the French fries are thin and crispy like chips.
Last but not least :
a lot of dishes are prepared with Belgian beer. We have a huge variety of beers. Trappisten Bier is very popular. This beer is made by the monks.
Duvel Beer is specific to Antwerp. Duvel = the devil ( You can already imagine how strong this beer is LOL)
Places to visit : Brussels, Brugge, Damme, Yper, Ghent, Antwerp, Namur, Liège, Dinant, les grottes de Han -sur -Lesse,
The Belgian Coast : Oostende, La Panne, etc..
Famous holiday places :
The seaside in the North,
the capital area (Brussels) in the middle + some of the cities mentioned above.
The Ardennes in the South.
Hope this helps.
