What hold you from holidays in Germany?

Question by Thea M: What hold you from holidays in Germany?
Are they better than in our educational system? I find already, because they have autumn holidays, spring holidays, then they have over the year distribute holidays and to be able in the winter e.g. also ski driving or so, here can one only in the summer vacation correctly make.
Sorry for my English however I cannot speak it yet so well!

For instance, I’m from Portugal, and we have many holidays through the year… and that don’t made the educational system better or worse!

Obviously, for the students… is better to have lots of vacations!… but… it turns more difficult to concentrate in the school… and in the discipline of learning and studying itself!

You, that only have one “real” vacation… is bad too… because you get to the end of the year exhausted!!!

But… educational systems are too complex to be talked! :(

I hope you have a great year in school!

  1. Germany is a fantastic country, I had the privilege of being stationed there for 5 years, most recently as of 2002.

The German educational system is much better linguistically than the United States. Stereotypically, most americans are only required to take two years of a second language in their high school, and it’s usually a rudimentary teaching as well.

Now onto the vacations, “holidays”. Germany has about 30 federal holidays per year that provide additional time off for each employee, and not to mention that the school holidays are timed much differently than here in America.

The U.S. has only 10 federal holidays per year. And our kids only get more than two weeks off of school in the summer, along with the two weeks to celebrate Christmas.

The Holidays in Germany are different from state to state.

The schools in Saxony have 2 weeks autumn holidays, the schools in Bavaria only 1 week. But Bavaria has an week more in spring or so. Generally, all German states have 6 weeks school-holiday in summer, but the time of the holiday is different from state to state too.

E.G.: Berlin from mid of july to end of august
Bavaria from end of july to beginning of september
