I live 28 miles north of Swansea City Centre, And I live in proper WALES.
Swansea is very anglicized but around 23% can speak Welsh there. But Where i live it’s nearer 80% of the people speak Welsh as a first language. If you want proper Wales come to the Fro Gymraeg(Welsh speaking Wales)
Until very recently I lived 16 miles from Swansea.
Swansea is a great city for a short stop-over, or as a starting point for other destinations in South Wales.
My advice is:
Swansea’s a small city, without much to offer in the daytime, but an incredible nightlife!
I would stay in a reasonably priced hotel in Swansea (something like a Travel Inn), then by day explore the area around Swansea.
Around 50 minutes’ drive from the city centre (about 1 hour, 20 minutes by bus) you have some of the world’s most beautiful beaches, especially Rhossili, which is just breathtaking. It’s a huge beach, with golden sands, surrounded by dramatic hills, and wild seas. Other brilliant beaches are Llangenneth, Three Cliffs and Oxwich.
Another option is going North, and you’ll find Bannau Brycheiniog. It’s the largest mountain range in South Wales. It’s great if you like walking. The mountains are impressive, but easy enough to climb, even if you’re a novice! It’s again around a 45 minute drive from Swansea. Unfortunately there’s no public transport to that area because it’s not very densely populated.
If you want to stay in Swansea during the day, there isn’t much that you can do.
You can go to the Seafront museum, which is a museum devoted to the ritch maritime history of Swansea. It’ll take up an hour of your day, and is very good for people of all ages, from babies to OAPs.
Hop on a 10 minute bus to the Mumbles, and you have a completely different side to Swansea. It’s a seaside town, with a rocky beach, some amazing restaurants, a castle, palm trees and high-class shops.
But if you go to Swansea, you must try JOE’S ICE CREAM. I’ll tell you, I’ve been to different parts of Italy and New York, and this is by far the best ice cream I’ve eaten. It’s far creamier than other ice creams, and it will send you crazy. It’s like a drug, one taste and you’re addicted for life!!!!!!!!
Again though, if you’re staying in Swansea, don’t stay for more than a day, or you’ll just get bored. The nightlife is amazing though!
I live 7 miles from there!
great friendly place!
Plenty of nightlife.
Great scenery!
Plenty of coast!
