Skipping Meals?

Question by saamajh: Skipping Meals?
I am going on Holiday in two weeks to Europe. I am 5’6” 1/2 and weigh 132 lbs.
I am not fat, but i really want to be skinny [i love the model thin look]. If I eat Yogurt or Cottage cheese and fruits and veggies during the day, and drink lots of tea and water and not eat anything at dinner, how much weight will i loose in two weeks?
Or which is better… Not eat dinner? or Skip lunch?

And i will be walking home from work everyday which is about 40 blocks.

help!
Thanks !

You should not skip meals. This will not help you lose weight because your body will start storing the calories you do consume. Skipping meals is like telling your body that it’s starving and should prepare to not get a meal anytime soon. So, you can actually put on more weight/fat this way.

The best thing to do is to eat regular, consistent meals and avoid depriving yourself of anything your body normally needs.

have a substantial lunch and small dinner

just eat a large salad for dinner and a piece of whole wheat bread, eat it before 7pm and eat nothing else until breakfast.

eat raw fruits (2-3 servings, slowly as you get ready) for breakfast, and nothing else until you’re really hungry and have lunch (if you do this regularly you will be Very Regular, which aids in weight loss)

drink TONS of water all day
    don’t drink coffee
    lay off sodium rich foods

for lunch try 1/2-3/4 cups brown rice (cooked), with a shit-load of steamed or stir-fried vegetables.
or a natural peanut butter sandwich (on whole wheat bread) and baby carrots
or a healthy vegetable/minestrone soup and piece of toast
or a bean and brown rice burrito on a whole wheat tortilla

(By the way, the advertising agencies are telling you that yogurt will help you fit into your bikini, but it’s not true).

If you are choosing healthier food options, like fruits and vegetables, and exercising then you should be able to lose weight. Most people can safely lose 1-2 pounds per week.

You actually do not want to skip meals, because it’s slows your metabolism down. If you want to speed your metabolism up, eat 4-6 smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day.

    Good luck!

Do not skip meals. Skipping meals will make your body store more from the meals you eat during the day because you are basically training your body to horde as much as it can, since it won’t be getting any more food and nutrition for a while. In fact, you should be doing the opposite. Instead of 2-3 large meals a day, have 5-6 smaller meals during the day to keep your metabolism running. This will give you all the energy you need throughout the day to burn off any calories you get from walking home.

Two weeks is not a lot of time to transform your body I am afraid. Losing more than 2-3 pounds per week is considered unhealthy, and could be dangerous to your health.

And you are not at an unhealthy weight, considering your height, so you shouldn’t worry too much about it.. Just enjoy your time there, and focus on some goals when you get back.

Do cardio is what will cause you to shed the pounds. I am going to assume that 40 blocks you mentioned was at least a 30 minute walk. Doing at least 30 minutes of cardio a day will do wonders for your health and weight loss goals. The important thing is to stay consistant.

Have you thought of running home from work? It will give you a much better cardio workout to help you lose weight than walking home, and you can enjoy a nice shower when you get there :) . Even just running for some of the distance will benefit you greatly, so think about it next time you are on that long walk. Just plug in your ipod (assuming you have one lol), and get those feet moving.

Remember, the more cardio you do, the more calories you will burn. But you cannot just deprive yourself of nutrients and still workout, it just doesn’t “work out” that way lol.

Lastly, this is going to be one of the biggest things to help you lose weight. Get less saturated fat and sugar. These are both extreme empty calories, and unless burned off through exercise, they will go right to the hips, in a matter of speaking.

Cut down on the McDonalds, Burger King, etc. I would not recommend more than twice a week. It’s just not good for you. Another big one is soda. This is loaded with tons of sugar, which is bad for you unless you can burn it off through cardio, like the fast food as I mentioned before. Plus the energy you get from soda is only temporary, and unless you keep drinking caffeine constantly (Which is bad for you btw), your body will crash and you will get very tired. Soda is not bad every now and then, just not all day every day. Just go easy on it, and you should be alright.

Yogurt and juice, as you mentioned, are both great for you. They do have calories, yes, but when combined with some exercise, they will be harmless to you weight wise. Plus they are both loaded with healthy nutrition.

If you have any additional questions, feel free to ask me anytime :) .

Good luck with your goals, and enjoy your vacay :D .
