The train system in France, and in Europe for that matter, is rated by all as the best way to get around. Often the slightly higher expense is made up for by the convenience of the stations being located in the city centre.
Getting to and from airports is time consuming and expensive.
Often the train journey is a highlight of your holiday in itself. You do not want to miss out on the stunning scenery that France has to offer.
You should always book well in advance to be sure of availability.

I can’t agree more on the Loire valley! I studied in Angers for a year, and it is a really nice city.
But purely historically speaking, I would pick Italy: Siena, Firenze, Bologna, Roma, Venice,… It’s amazing how well preserved many historical cities in Italy are.
Be careful for tourist traps and crowded places though! Lonely Planet is always gold when on holiday.
If u like big cities —- then Hamburg is a must. I travel there every year
