my family are going to south wales on holiday and we are near a ferry port. do we need a passport to go to southern ireland as it isnt part of the uk. thankx in advance.

the answer is no but you do need some form of photo I.d with you just to prove who you are .

You have an immediate problem, the ferry services are biased towards Irish clientel, thus the sailings to Ireland are not conducive to British day-trippers.
Two sailings a day @ 0245 & 1430 from Pembroke to Cork
Two sailings a day @ 0245 & 1430 from Fishgaurd to Rosslere
There is a “fastcraft service from Fishgaurd @ 1130 each day but that only gives you 90 minutes in Ireland.
no you dont but you need some ID just like a buss pass or something, ive done that loads of times, from holyhead to dublin
