Question by Irish: Has anyone ever been to Serbia (particularly Novi Sad)? What’s it like? What are prices like in Serbia?
Thinking of going to Serbia (Novi Sad) on holiday and wondering what to expect? I’ve travelled in eastern Europe before so have an idea what to expect but any first hand info is appreciated. How much are things in Serbia, ciggies, alcohol, transport, nightclubs, eating out etc? Thanks.

Novi Sad is best known for the Exit Music Festival – http://eng.exitfest.org and for the Petrovaradin fortress, often called as the Gibraltar on the Danube – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petrovaradin_Fortress

Novi Sad is a very beautiful city. There is the Petrovaradin fortress fortress and also many shops…And in the center there is a nice cathedral..it’s closed, but nice to look at from the outside :P In general, the prices are average, not too expensive and not too cheap. Food is pretty cheap (when I was in Serbia on a school trip we ate in McDonald’s ever day), but clothes are expensive (especially in Novi Sad). But I’m judging compared to our prices here (in Macedonia). I’ve only used public transport in Belgrade, but it’s pretty disorganized…There is no specific time on arrival of the buses, sometimes you have to wait like 30 minutes! And I’ve never noticed anyone buying tickets or anything…I’ve asked and they told me it’s not free, only for some people..I still don’t get it… I’ve also only been to nightclubs in Belgrade, and I have to say, the music sucks…I mean, I only listen to rock, but what they play is there..popular Serbian music..is shit.
