Good time to visit – less tourists, milder weather and better prices. I have family living in Bretagne and from the books and postcards they send me – the coast looks amazing. I lived for a few months in Burgundy and would have stayed there for ever if my language skills were not so bad then.
I hear good and equally bad things about Italy. A friend went to Rome recently and had an amazing trip, but another friend disliked it and had her bag stolen. My partner hates Italy. He went there three times for Phd work and found the people rude, the cities filthy etc. There are also problems with garbage in Naples, but if you have a deep passion for art, culture, and ice cream than you will have a good time.
Have fun and enjoy your trip.
