first ever skiing holiday – some questions about clothes and skis?

Question by wss UK: first ever skiing holiday – some questions about clothes and skis?
I’ve always wanted to go skiing (proper skiing, not indoors in the uk) but that was too expensive when we were younger. well I’ve been saving for it and so have my parents and we have enough to do it.

How does ski clothing and skis work? do you have to buy them? we don’t have the money to be going skiing every year…. or can you rent them at your destination… (we don’t know where in Europe we will be going, ANY RECOMMENDATIONS?)
thank you.

100% positive that at a popular resort in europe you can rent all your stuff very close by.

a smaller resort you may have to go down the road to rent some gear :)

check the website for the resort you are going to, they will be able to tell you :)

  1. In most of the US, you can rent the skis and boots, poles, bindings are on the skis. You need to buy the clothing yourself, since your color scheme, and personal preferences and size are all you. Many ski swaps are promoted in the local areas where clothing and ski equipment can be purchased at favorable prices. You should never buy ski boots without trying them on your feet. These should fit tight, without crushing your foot. Depending on your personality, some good used clothing may be found in various shops and some charity outlets, St Vincent, or in the US Goodwill. In short, buy clothes, goggles, hat, gloves and then rent the ski gear. As you develop skills, buy a good pair of boots. The skis are the last thing to purchase.

  2. Decide what skifield you are going to, check their website to see what rental they have available, and buy what you cant rent. Popular skifields let you rent everything, including clothes.
