Can I drive from Northern Ireland to the Republic of Ireland and fly out of Dublin without a Passport stamp?

Question by angelusbird: Can I drive from Northern Ireland to the Republic of Ireland and fly out of Dublin without a Passport stamp?
I am an American traveling on holiday flying into London and then traveling to Northern Ireland. Will I get in trouble if I drive to the Republic of Ireland and catch a flight back to America from Dublin since I don’t have a Republic of Ireland stamp on my passport.

Sher nobody stamps passports any more.
We can’t afford the ink these days.

  2. Hmmmmm, not too sure. You should be ok but to make certain you should contact the Irish Embassy in the country you are now in and seek advice from them.

The U.K. and Ireland are part of a common travel area. This means that there is no need to produce a passport for travel between the two countries. On leaving Dublin, the only person who will look at your passport is the check in clerk. There is no outward check of passports by the Irish authorities. There is pre clearance carried out by U.S. Customs at Dublin Airport for outward U.S. flights which will require you to produce your passport.

There are no passport controls between Ireland and N.I.

Seriously….drive where you want…just keep to the correct side of the road!!! LOL
No passport will be stamped…..who does that now anyway??

  6. OK, forget all this stuff about the Common Travel Area – that applies ONLY to Irish and British citizens.

Passports DO get stamped – this is your entry visa. Passports only don’t get stamped if you are an EU/EAA/Swiss citizen travelling within the EU/EEA/Switzerland, since no visa is required for travel between these areas.
