Q&A: Is Caipirinha widely known and available in N. American bars?

Question by joan_crawford_rise_again: Is Caipirinha widely known and available in N. American bars?
During my trip to San Francisco last week I spent sometime at a bar accross from Holiday Inn Express F. wharf on North Point. I tried to order a Caipirinha for the night but it took me a while to explain what it is because the bartender seemed not knowing what it is, so i had to order myself a gin and tonic…so I want to know if Caipirinha is widely known in N. America? Or I happened to bump into a inexperienced bartender?
Caipirinha is a Brazilian cocktail made with Cachaca, lime, sugar, and ice.

Banff National Park – Alberta, Canada

Banff National Park is one of the truly beautiful wilderness areas of the world – especially in winter! Snow draped spruce and aspen cover the slopes while many of the mountain lakes, that are so colourful in summer, are covered in a thick layer of ice in winter making for a wintery wonderland. In winter come skiing or snowboarding, take a horse drawn sleigh ride around Lake Louise or even go speeding through the forest on a dog sled – with the hounds barking and yelping in delight! Banff National Park has spectacular scenery, fantastic activities and wonderful accommodation choices wherever you go. A visit here will be a holiday adventure unlike any you’ve had before. So come and enjoy!

Do you know how to extend a New Zealand Working Holiday in Canada?

Question by Leif: Do you know how to extend a New Zealand Working Holiday in Canada?
I’ve been in Canada for about 6 months now as a New Zealander under the working holiday program and have decided I’d like to stay for longer. I’m a bartender working at a resort here (Summer and winter), does anyone have any idea on how to either extend it or if there is another Visa that I can apply for in order to continue my stay? I also have a Dutch passport, so maybe I can apply for something on that…? Any info would be grand

Happy Holidays To All Of You Out There Who Support/Defend The USA? Do you agree?

Question by Perro De Lava: Happy Holidays To All Of You Out There Who Support/Defend The USA? Do you agree?
As the year 2008 comes to an end we must never forget those who are currently serving in our military.

Whether we agree with the reasons or not is irrelevant. It is our friends and family who have made the decision to serve and that is all that should matter.

Many times the unforgotten warriors are the mothers, spouses, and children who remain back here at home while their loved one is deployed. To be separated for over a year or any length of time is not an easy thing to do. But somehow many do it every day.

No matter the branch, and no matter the job, we are all in this together.

To each of our veterans both active and those at home and to each of your families, may your holidays be filled with love and happiness.

May the defenders of freedom continue the fight no matter where they may be and may their journey be a safe one.

Happy Holidays and Semper Fidelis to all who shall see these words.

When will minorities stop being called “minorities”?

Question by Buddy12345: When will minorities stop being called “minorities”?
I live in a certain Canadian city and the latest demographics show that visible minorities account for 68% of the total population. Attitudes have always been very accommodating and positive. However I have noticed in the past decade that many of our North American beliefs are being forfeited to promote equality. For example, we cannot say Merry Christmas in schools but our children are learning about Ramadan and other religious holidays. It appears that government jobs, which have traditionally hired minorities to counter discriminatory hiring practices elsewhere, are still doing the same. Policemen are wearing turbans and you cannot even pronounce the names of the local politicians.

I realize that minorities are still minorities on the on the national level, but when they are the majority on a local scale do they still need to be accommodated to such an extreme level? At what point do the tables turn?

Personally I feel like tolerance and equality has created some sort of terrifying entity. I expect diversity in my community but we went from 20% to 68% in a decade. If these rates continue it completely defeats the entire purpose of diversity in the first place!

What’s going on here?

This has happened for more than 250 years, and it will keep happening. The Native population probably said the same thing when the Europeans arrived. This continent has always been a melting pot.

I sincerely doubt that you can’t say Merry Christmas in school, but learning about other cultures and beliefs is not a bad thing. You either adapt, or let the tide of history pass you by.
