Question by Melody F: Where to go in Asia?
I am going on a Holiday to Asia Pacific region for my 21st, I have never been overseas and want to experience somewhere very different to my home country(australia) but also westernernized enough to be safe, as its my sister and I going alone together. I am mainly considering Malaysia,Thailand,The Phillipines, Indonesia,Singapore. We will be going for two weeks. The main things i would like to do/see are
Shopping(ie Markets, replica products etc)
Beaches
Resorts
Attractions(ie water parks, animals etc)
good food
we would also like for it to be somewhere that is naturally beautiful. we would be able to visit two different cities within the one country. Any expereinces you can share or advice you can offer would be appreciated!

if u are the urban type …i strongly suggest come to Singapore first.
I say tat not becoz it is my country….
the main reason is to prevent you from culture shock…as Spore is very western as well as having the eastern culture
and let u adjust to some eastern culture.

Once u are here plan your trips…wat are yr choices….
As Spore is central to those countries of your choice…u can go overland to Malaysia and fly to the others.

Shopping…Spore offers the best in electronics and IT stuff
Beaches…Phuket(T),Bali(I),Lombok(I),
Sipadan(M),Redang(M),Langkawi(M)….
Resorts….just too many….

From Spore u can fly to Bali or Lombok…
…or U can take the bus to Kuala Lumpur…Langkawi or Redang

…or plan a trip up Malaysia to all its resorts and theme parks…

….and continue to Phuket or Krabi or Phi Phi Islands in Thailand for the most beautiful beaches(where DiCaprio acted)…

…and from there fly or overland to Bangkok for some more bargain shopping and very interesting nite scenes,,,( if u know wat i mean)…

…have fun….

  1. I been to all these countries (Malaysia, Thailand, The Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore). I love to go back to Malaysia again.

    My preference in order:
    1. Malaysia. 2. Indonesia. 3. Thailand. 4. Singapore. 5. The Philippines.

    A flavoursome culture fusion – from high-tech to no-tech.

Malaysia is one of the most pleasant, hassle-free countries to visit in southeast Asia. It’s buoyant and wealthy, and has moved towards a pluralist culture based on a vibrant and interesting fusion of Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous cultures and customs.

Malaysia’s love of Western-style industrialisation is abundantly clear in its big cities. Aside from the gleaming glass towers of the 21st Century, though, Malaysia boasts some of the most superb beaches, mountains and national parks in Asia.

    Enjoy your holiday!

    Hi Melody
    welcome to Asia.

Like the others have said, the countries you mentioned are pretty diverse and you’ll find quite unique things about each one.

Given that you have 2 weeks, my suggestion is that you zero in on may be just 2, at most 3, countries and spend more time at each spot. Trying to cover all the 5 countries you mentioned in 2 weeks would be too much of a ‘touch-and-go’.

Have a great time and come back again.
