what is thailand like, would it be a good holiday choice for a family?

Question by helene: what is thailand like, would it be a good holiday choice for a family?
my family would like to take a holiday somewhere but we are unsure where, preferably somewhere in asia, we are thinking of Thailand but we need to know whether it is a safe country for for families, whether or not it is a clean country in comparison to other asian countries, is it a cheap country in the way of food and accommodation, are the locals friendly, is there good shopping , and is there a lot to do and see there, what are the main attractions of thailand? also a rough idea on how much money it would cost for a couple of weeks in Thailand would be good, we are a family of six, whats the cheapest we could do Thailand, how much roughly did you spend in thailand . sorry if none of that makes sense

Begin your day with midnight snack at Mi Casa. Have meal at the eloquent and schmick Mi Casa, for a luscious meal. Mi Casa is surely a spot need to be felt while in Chiang Mai.

It has good accomodation for families and some good activities. Quite noisy. Stay with yor kids at ALL times. Reccomemd that if you go to Thailand your children are from the age of 8 +. You can go a bit under this age but be very carefull. Cheap, great shopping, alot to do and see! I loved the elephant trekking and day trips. Similan Island Tours was beautiful! Flights are cheap depending on when you get them. Go with Air Asia. (cheap, pretty good quality) Also the food is fantastic.

    Have a good trip!!!
    Good Luck!!!

yes – to all – and as to the answer above, surely, you will have to be watchful of children wherever you vacation, even in your own country –

it is highly traveled here, exotic, yet user friendly – probably one of the lesser expensive places you can visit – outside of the main tourist areas, decent hotles can be had for $20 and less – in Chiang Mai, which is quite touristed and lots of day trips for the whole family, you can find decent guesthouses for under $20 – nothing luxurious, but some with pools for $20 and up of course.

With so many of you, you might be well served to hire a car and driver – which should be relatively reasonable –

but in general, food is cheap, and Thai are known as being very friendly…

I like Thailand sooooo much! It has a place called Dream World and I think its in Bangkok. In Dream World,it has a huge house of a giant! All things inside are huge!In Dream World it has many many things for a family to explore! I hope I helped!

  4. Yes to all of your questions. While Thailand is not as clean as Singapore or Japan, you will find it better than Cambodia or Laos.

As far as specific recommendations as to what to do, it largely depends on what you want to do….

Chiang Mai: The cultural center of Thailand, great scenery & things like hill tribes are present in many parts of the region.

    Beaches:
Khao Lak, Krabi & Phuket are all excellent choices (Phuket would be the option for shopping; the Northern part of Phuket is much quieter than the Southern part of the island).

Bangkok has tons to do, such as shopping and restaurants, but the good beaches in Hua Hin and Cha Am are about 1.5-3 hours away by car.

    Money:

Hard to say because I don’t know what your standards are for hotels (you could be looking at 1-3000 baht+ per night) and what you plan to eat. Tours are hard to factor into the pricing, unfortunately (how many you will do, what you will do, etc.). If you are staying for a long-time, you could look at a site like airbnb.com for longer-term accommodations.

    Links to guides are below.

  5. Well if you want it to be as cheap as possible, you have to do the arrangement practically all by yourself. For a family, like the others here recommended, Chiang Mai is a good choice. You can get a decent hotel with good sanitation for less than 500 bath for 2. You can reach Chiang Mai from Bangkok by air or 12 hours train ride with sleepers for night travel. For activities just check at the hotel counter or drop in at any of the tours operators there.

Make your stay in Chiang Mai longer because its cheaper than Bangkok also you can go for a short tour to Laos if you want to (tours operators there can arrange visa for you but its better if you can get Laos visa over at your place in advance.) For beaches you can opt for Phuket, because on the eastern side this time of year is the moonsoon season.

Food shouldn’t be expensive as long you don’t eat at those posh restaurant. Do check the price on the menu.

For cheap flights in South East Asia, you can check with AirAsia. If you book in advance you can get a much cheaper price. Maybe you can even hop over to Langkawi, Malaysia or Bali, Indonesia. For activities you can check on the tourism website of the respective country.
