Q&A: Did the Bible ever say anything regarding Christmas?
Question by Sabrina[Free the Ummah]: Did the Bible ever say anything regarding Christmas?
Hello Christmas celebrators!
A sincere question ^_^
Did the Bible ever say anything regarding Christmas? Because I’ve been looking and I haven’t found anything ._. Maybe I’m looking in the wrong Bible…
I mean I found one verse but it kind criticized the use of dressing a tree in general. “The customs of the people are worthless, they cut a tree out of the forest, and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel, they adore it with silver and gold, they fasten it with hammer and nails so it will not totter” (Jeremiah 10-3,4).
Neither the date 25th Dec. nor any other date on Jesus’ birth is mentioned in the Bible. @.@’ It was not until the year 530 C.E. that a monk, Dionysus Exigus, fixed the date of Jesus’ birth on Dec. 25th…his date was chosen in keeping with the holidays already indoctrinated into pagans beliefs.
Plus did Jesus or the disciples celebrate it? If Jesus meant his followers to celebrate Christmas, he would have practiced it himself and enjoined it on his followers. There is no mention in the entire Bible that any of his followers ever celebrated Jesus’ birthday like Christians do today. Now I am really confused…
And Santa Claus is a lloonnggg search on that character. I mean first he’s this Nicholas guy in Turkey over in Asia Minor helping the poor, then he becomes a Saint and is worshipped in many churches. After that, the Catholic Church, keen to increase their power and wealth, conspired to steal the bones to make the city a magnet for pilgrims. At the end of the eleventh century, forty seven armed men from Bari set sail for Asia Minor. They overpowered four monks and seized the valued relics of St. Nicholas. The Church agreed to pay the thieves, and then their heirs, a percentage of the offerings, but later the Church reneged on this deal, keeping all the money for itself. Ever since, the Catholic Church has helped to promote an annual festival to celebrate this profitable act of piracy. Plus Santa Claus isn’t in the Bible either o_o;
Thanks for reading and I appreciate any and all comments to further my understanding of the background of the Christmas Holidays :]

Saturnalia was a holiday adopted by Christianity from the pagans to sway pagans to Christianity. Christains changed it a bit, but those are the orgins of christmas
Saturnalia was a festival held between 17th and 24th December, which began in the days of the Roman Empire. This was a week of feasting, gift-giving

Just that Jesus Christ was born on Christmas.
Yes, there’s a very beautiful telling of Christ’s birth in the Bible.
“8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”
Aha Sabrina that is true..
Christmas trees are against Christianity? Damn Christians..
8^} bravo…
Chas H, if u are joking, thanx for the laugh. If not, you’re weird.
the story of the birth of christ talks about the 3 wise men who came to look upon him brought him gifts and today we give one another gifts to honor his birth and the gift of giving – peace be with u
A lot of Religious Scholars actually think Jesus was born in the springtime, based on star charts or something that is out of my realm of understanding but makes sense to people who know astronomy. The December date was chosen to align with the Pagan Winter Solstice holiday, to convert the Pagans by sort of “easing” the transition to a new religion.
You are right. You won’t find Christmas in the bible. Nor will you find anything that says not to celebrate it either. It isn’t a “Christian” holiday per se, according to the Bible. The only real celebrations we know of biblically are passover and weddings. But then during the time the bible was written few were acknowledging Christ as the Messiah, few celebrated him. IF one does so now, it is out of joy and peace that he did come to the world and it DOES bring attention to him and his word. How can that be negative? JW don’t celebrate and I respect that. But Decorating a tree and worshiping a tree are two different things. As for tax time it clearly wasn’t in december But who is being hurt by celebrating it then? It brings glory to God right?
Sabrina, the Bible does describe the Birth of Christ and the visit of the Magi. However, the Bible does not give month and day. In order to find that we would need to go to the Roman records of the tax census taken that year. I don’t know if you can pull it up online. Most likely it is in the archives of either the Vatican or of Santa Sophia in Turkey. We chose December 25 as a convenience. The patriarchs wanted to steer the pagans away from the worship of Saturn so they chose Dec. 25 as the birth date. Santa Claus is actually based on a Christian saint from eary Russia who was a bishop and had helped the poor of his area. His actual birth date is December 6. Over the years, it all got lumped together. However the dates for the crucifixion and resurrection can be determined by the date of the Jewish Passover. Although the Roman and Orthodox church changed it somewhat, the actual Resurrection Sunday falls on the first Sunday after Passover starts. It is just not always celebrated that way. Hope this helps.
Wow, I never heard that….. Imagine, being so misled for so long with so many others. If only we had leaders like you! Please….LEAD
No, if you mean the mass or the religious celebrations invented by humans. I kind of like the singing and the worshiping by the angels and the shepherds, though. I kind of wish I had been there. I’m a pretty good baby sitter, and I could have cleaned and held the child while his mother slept.
Hi –
Those verses in Jeremiah are speaking about men carving themselves idols and false gods.
The Bible doesn’t talk about the date JESUS was born, just about HIS birth. December 25th is just the date we celebrate HIS birth. You are right, the Bible does not mention anyone celebrating the birth of CHRIST – It is HIS death and resurrection that are important.
Christmas IS NOT in the bible!
Christmas is celebrated by christians to remember Jesus’ birth! The disciples and Jesus did not celebrate it!
You will probably find a lot of different explanations of when and why the first Christmas was celebrated!
In the biblical sense, we celebrate his birth, because Jesus was the worlds gift from God. Sent from God to be the one and only way to salvation! (Hence the gift giving)
There is no evidence in The Holy Bible that Christmas is to be celebrated, in fact, The Apostles, the disciples, the first true believers and even for the next three centuries we find absolutely no record anywhere that anyone spoke about or observed what we know today as ‘Christmas’.
Although the Apostles Matthew and Luke mention His birth, neither gives the date. None of the biblical writers says anything about commemorating Christ’s birth.
Did Jesus Christ tell us to celebrate His birth? No. However, He left explicit instructions regarding how His followers are to commemorate His death
Christmas- The Mass of Christ – The birth of Christ.
that’s all it means!
Like i said people celebrate if for different reasons!
you are correct, about this info, but as some catholics, baptist, orthodox and those that celebrate this holiday choose or have been taught from birth wrong doings, and they believe the lie as you have come to know truth.
uh, Read the first two chapters of the Gospel St. Luke. The first couple of chapters should suffice.

The date chosen to celebrate our Lord’s birth was so that the Christians in Rome could secretly celebrate it as it was a major feast day for the pagans in Rome that day. The date stuck from there.
no one celebrated birth days back then. They didn’t exactly have a calendar the way we do today to keep track of the day of their birth either. It isn’t a crazy notion however to celebrate the birth of our savior. There doesn’t need to be mention in the bible anyways since the bible is not the pillar and ground of truth. St. Paul’s first epistle to St. Timothy chapter 3 verse 15 says the church is the pillar and ground of truth.
I have a feeling the info you got on the history of St. Nicholas and the Catholic church is from an anti Catholic source. Try a non anti Catholic source for your info there.
Yes, yure right. I wonder why the call the Devil Nick? Was he saint Nick?
WELL, don’t be confused, I wish to congratulate you that u ARE reading the correct i.e. THE HOLY BIBLE and I too read the same.Just believe what THE HOLY BIBLE says.
Also, as long as our LORD ALMIGHTY is glorified may whatever be the occasion, lets rejoice in glorifying the LORD, GOD knows our motive.
Philippians 1:15-18 (NIV)
It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill.
The latter do so in love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel.
The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains.
But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.
Mat 2:10 When they saw the star, they were filled with joy!
Mat 2:11 They entered the house where the child and his mother, Mary, were, and they fell down before him and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
Jesus was born on the jewish festival of sukkot in late september or early october. all of the events in scripture suggest this time. king nimrod was born on dec 25. you see nimrod’s mother who was also nimrod’s wife (pretty sick) started the holliday when nimrod died to celebrate nimrod. many other pagan rituals were combined to be celebrated on this date. the tree the lights the santa all of these things are pagan. (also look at easter)
i rejoice and celebrate Jesus’s birth every day in my heart.
Peace!!
No one knows when Jesus Christ is born, we care less on the dates when he was born. What matter is we remember him and we celebrate his birthday.
About this Santa Claus, the church doest make it, people make it.
About St. Nicholas true he helping the poor and childred.
Jesus’ birthday was not on Dec 25th, he didn’t celebrate his birthday, which is why you cant find any accounts of it in the bible, and he urged us to do the same, yet for some reason everyone still does.
dear, Christmas is about celebrating the birth of Jesus. it’s not just a celebration. it’s about celebrating God who sends His only begotten Son to earth to save the people on earth and for sure He’s coming back for judgment day. we just have to wait for the day we meet Jesus and ask Him about His real birthdate. we actually can celebrate Christmas everyday. just that they set a date that Christmas can be celebrated throughout the world on the same day. there’s no need to be confused about actually.. =) hope i helped and God bless..
oh ya, and santa claus, it’s not in the bible. you can’t find that anywhere in the bible dear. and the christmas trees are just pretty decorations. =)
