Holiday destination ideas?

Question by Rachel: Holiday destination ideas?
My family and I love travelling, and this year we’re going on a lot of trips to different places around the world. We’re going to places like a tour of Europe (Dublin, London, Paris, Berlin, Rome, Madrid, Amsterdam etc.), Dubai, Egypt, Maldives and places like that. Where else could we go? We’re also going to the Caribbean. I was thinking about Peru, would that be a good place to go? Any type of weather is fine, climate, and we really just want to experience the different cultures of the world. Where could we go in Africa and Asia? Also, where’s the best place to go skiing in the spring? And any other cool activities like skiing or scuba diving would be awesome :)
Thanks!:)

Ok here is my travel advice… I have travelled the world aside from to Asia… hasn’t really appealed to me .. yet.

Africa – Rwanda. Yes really. I went there having travelled to Uganda to see the mountain gorillas. I decided to pop across the border to Rwanda and it was the most incredible, awe inspiring place I have ever been to in Africa. I stayed in Gisenyi. Kibuye, Kigali. The people were very welcoming and the country is not dangerous – I travelled there as a single female. (The genocide was in 1994). There are a number of French and Belgian expats living there. The country is also very developed especially the capital because money was poured into it after 1994.

Indian Ocean – Go to Mauritius – Specifically Le Morne in the South. I stayed in a hotel called the Indian resort and loved it. I hired a small car at the hotel for about £100 a week and would go to the capital Port Louis and up to the north where there are plenty of scuba diving course, and snorkeling. The country is so small that it takes about three hours to drive from top to bottom or vice versa. They drive on the left like Brits and th people are lovely and the food sublime.

South America – Venezuela, then pop across the border into Colombia. I went to Venezuela, again alone in November last year. Loved it! Only downside is that in the capital, caracas, they charge a fortune for what amount to 1 star hotels! Also Caracas is dangerous, so you have to book a car to collect you from the airport and really leave as soon as possible which is what I did. I stayed on an island called Marguerita – beautiful – beaches, etc.
I tend travelled West and stayed on an indigenous Indian lodge on the Orinoco Delta booked with this company

I loved it. I slept in a hammock, went swimming in the Orinoco, watched exotic birds, crocodiles, etc
and caught a few piranhas!
I did not have enough time to go to Colombia. I wanted to go to Cartegena, but I am going back on February 21 to Venezuela and intend to go across to Colombia then!
One last destination I have to recommend is Central america (rather than South). I travelled through Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Guatemala was incredible – rainforests, Mayan ruins (the largest in this region), beautiful scenery, lovely people and very cheap. Honduras which borders Guatemala was great too and had wonderful white sand beaches. Honduras has the second largest barrier reef in the world and is one of the cheapest places to obtain a scuba diving certificate!

As for skiing in spring – how about Banff, Jasper or Lake Louise regions in Canada or the Mont Blanc region of France which is where I go to mountaineer. a wonderful, yet unusual place to go skiing is Alaska – a small town called Alyeska. Went there a few years back and loved it!

Enjoy your trip wherever you decide to go!

Well ur going to amazing destinations where the number one is Dubai which is filled with cultrure It is the best place to go to it has anything u want. You can go to the beach and tan and at the same time go skiing! Its the best place on earth! Just make sure u stay in dubai for atleast 1 week and dont go in the middle of summer cuz it tends to get hot even at any season dubai is amazing. Scuba diving, wind surfing, all those beach activities are in dubai so go there and have a great time. If u needed any info about there plz do ask me.
Another place u can go to is Canada, Vancouver! It is a beautiful country to visit to. Its all nature and great. But DUBAI IS THE BEST ! ALWAYS REMEBER THAT. I am being truley honest with u, i have gone mostly around the world so i know.

Hi Rachel, Regarding places to visit in Africa, I would really recommend Morroco – either by catching the ferry from Spain or flying directly in. Also, if you can afford a safari then head to either South Africa or Namibia. More ideas here: http://www.bemappy.com/traveltheworld/africa/

South East Asia is a great travelling destination.

Enjoy! It looks like a great trip.
