I’m looking to spend 4 months in Southeast Asia starting in Nov 08 to March 09. I’m looking for a flight from Ottawa, Canada to Hong Kong to Bangkok, to Ottawa. When would be the best time to book the flights for best prices? Should I buy now or wait a few more months?

It’s probably best to wait, fares to most destinations in SE Asia and Asia are usually at their lowest between October and just before Christmas, and when you return in March is usually a good time to travel to and from Asia for low fares as well. I live in Bangkok and bought tickets from Thailand to the west coast last October and this March for a little over 0 on Cathay Pacific, fares can be much higher other times of the year. Late October and early November is the big trade show season in Hong Kong and Guangzhou, so prices can be higher to those areas that time of year. I’m sure there’s no direct flights from Ottawa to Bangkok or vice versa, and except for a very few flights, no non-stops between Bangkok and N. America, you will need to layover somewhere most of the time. I would wait, maybe even until September, but keep an eye on fares and any promotions between now and then. Good luck.
