Asia or America?

OK, myself and my Dad are planning a holiday to Canada next Christmas (2008) and im checking out possible routes that we can take to Edmonton. Our closest major airport is Brisbane, Australia, even though we live on the Sunshine Coast which has a small airport.
We know that we can either go to Sydney and get a non-stop flight to Vancouver with Air Canada but that will be a 15 hour flight…mabye to long, or we can stop off in Asia and Vancouver or mabye even stop in Honolulu and then to Vancouver or even another American city (NOT LAX OR SFO!!!) and get straight to Edmonton from there.
So I have 4 or 5 options- Straight to Vancouver then Edmonton,Asia-Vancouver then Edmonton, Honolulu-Vancouver then Edmonton or Honolulu-American City on to Edmonton (except for LA or SFO (airports are not good!))
So what would you choose or has anyone had past experience? We also want to save a few $$$ so if we could also take that into account, that would be good
I dont know what to choose!

I have went to almost all of the world but no were was as beautifull and cooler than Iran. It was really fun.
I’d review the various travel websites and figure out what the cheapest route would be. The simple truth is, you probably won’t find the fastest flight at the cheapest rate.
So it’s a matter of cheap vs painless.
