What is the cheapest way to holiday in Iceland?
Question by joanna183: What is the cheapest way to holiday in Iceland?
I don’t mind youth hostels, budget hotels, trains, etc. – I’m dying to go to Iceland but need to do it on a budget. I’d like to go for about 5 days. Also any recommendations to see / where to go would be great.

If you are up for a little adventure (and meeting locals), try couchsurfing.
http://couchsurfing.com
It’s a network of hosts and travellers, where you can arrange to stay with a local for free. Accommodation varies from a spare mattress to a guest room. It’s quite safe (I’ve never had a bad experience), there are verification levels and personal reviews, so you can choose to contact people that you feel comfortable with. It’s also nice because you get inside information on what to see and where to go. In return, you might take them out to dinner or a drink one night, bring a small present from home, or cook for them.
Cheapest flights are usually on http://momondo.com especially if you have flexible dates (you can play around with their flight calendar).
There’s a lot to see in Iceland, especially nature, so it really depends on your preferences. Try one of these guides on Virtual Tourist:

It depends what time of year you are going. If you are there in the summer, the cheapest way is to camp. Otherwise the youth hostels are fine. There are no trains, so you either have to take a bus, rent a car or try to hitchhike or share a ride to get around the country
