Q&A: Should i Demand to see Midwife Before 15th of Jan 08 ?
Question by Sara E: Should i Demand to see Midwife Before 15th of Jan 08 ?
hiya i am pregnant not sure how far on i am sure i am about 7 weeks and went to the doctors to get an appoitment with the midwife – the only appoitment they can give me is the 15th of January 08 – that is not for a scan just to see the midwife – i have had a miscarriage last year so i am wanting to make sure everything is ok this time !!! – i am also going on holiday on the 27th for 5 days to lapland and i dont wanna fly if there is something wrong ! – i just think that waiting till the 15th of january before i can see a midwife is mad – let alone having to wait another couple of weeks after that for a scan ??
what do you think ? – do you think i am over reacting or just been cautious – as i did have a miscarriage the first time ? please give your opinions thanxs xxx

ok if your not happy with the date they have given you well change doctors, im sure you should be able to get into somewhere. if worst comes to worst call the midwife at the hospital and them to check you out. explain whats going on and im sure they will tell you to come up to be looked at. i had a misscarriage last yr and i was 8 weeks, im pregnant now and iam 26 almost 27 weeks and when i found out when i was 8 weeks i demanded to be put in asap because of the misscarriage i had last yr. its ok to worrie about your baby, that just goes to show your going to make a great mummy. good luck

I’m a midwife myself and it is not uncommon for people not too see a midwife until after the ten week mark, especially if this is not your first child. they will probably offer you your scan quite soon after the booking apt. but if you feel you have concerns by all means go in and ask to see them now. thats what they are there for. I’m sure they wont mind giving you a quick check over before you go away. or if they are too busy you can always see your doctor.
I am in Australia and i have had 3 babies before, im now having our 4th. We have a ultrasound at 10 weeks to see if the baby has down syndrome. it is advisable to seek advice from a health professional, given you have miscaried before. I have had 1 miscariage but i was unaware i pregnant and we moved house and i was lifting heavy articles, however due to the strain we lost the baby. given this is your 1st baby, go and ask the questions you need answered, dont be worried its a happy time in your life. Good Luck, keep well.
