Iceland 2010 – Volcanoes, Northern Lights, Geysers, Glaciers, Jeeps…
We’ve just returned from visiting Iceland where we went for a long weekend with the express goal of seeing the volcano that’s been eruption on the Eyjafjallajokull glacier for the last three weeks. We were not disappointed seeing the volcano up close after a 4 hour drive over the glacier. On the return trip, around 1am, the Northern lights put on an amazing show which added to an already spectacular journey. The rest of the holiday included visits to waterfalls and geysers at Gullfoss and then chilaxing on the blue lagoon. We flew out on Tuesday and were surprised to see that on Wednesday, the volcano erupted more violently melting part of the glacier and sending an ash cloud into the air that would cripple air traffic across Europe. Altogether, the best easter break I think we’ve ever had.
@scottishmotorman oh i ve seen that in booking and it was the first choice … im so glad ti hear the its really nice to stay there !!!!
thanks a lot for the infos
@gregthegreek We booked with a company called ‘Apartment K’. The accommodation was really funky, very comfortable, had great facilities (movies on demand, internet etc.) and very central. I totally recommend staying with them.
can u please tell me what is the name of the hotel/appartment that u stayed .. it seems so nice and i am looking one to book cause i ll visit reyk this march ! thank u !
@chrispietryka We didn’t go to see the NL and were just very lucky. They appeared at about 2am when we were coming off the Eyjafjallajökull glacier near the south of the island where the volcano erupted – just follow highway 1 south from the capital. At easter that was the tail end of the period that you’d expect to see themso probably better go earlier in the year.
Can you please tell me where in Iceland you saw the northern lights? And did you do some type of package vacation for all of this? I only ask because I really only want to see the N.LIGHTS( the other stuff is really cool) and I need to know how far away from city lights and such I need to be to see them( I also know there are a bunch of other factors for seeing them) I mean can I get a hotel in the capital and move around somewhere near there to see them? Please tell me brother!
I was just listening to Sigur Rós and clicking on all things Icelandic, I clicked on your video just as the track ‘Saeglopur’ started playing, the track matches your video soo much I watched the lot! Usually I bypass family hol vids, but the music with this video is amazing! Great bit of editing by the way.

wow this is beautiful. My brother was stationed in Keflavik Iceland when he was in the navy. It was hard being apart. We are both close. It was just him and me. I want to go so much. This video is what i imagined when he spoke about it. He even spoke about visiting the Blue Lagoon. Beautiful video. Beautiful family. Thank you for making this. I almost feel a different sense of connection to my brother. thank you so much.

@MultiTintin007 Thanks for your comments. I used a GoPro HD for the wide angle/water video, a Sony Handycam and an entry level Nikon DSLR for the stills.
Great Job !
What kind of gear did you used on this project in terms of photographic and video equipment … The rendering is so polished. Looks Awsome.
It’s like a video crew was there only to take care of the capture, isn’t it ?
Good job!

Wow, what a wonderful adventure that must have been. I loved everything, the northern lights, the geysers, the volcanic eruptions. I don´t get to see those kinds of things in my country and now you got me all excited about visiting Iceland. Thanks for sharing your video. Greetings from Guatemala!
