just looking for a model of bike that would be good to travel long distances in Africa that can also carry some bags, price doesn’t really matter

For parts and repairs I would choose a Japanese bike. However, the more important part will be what route you plan to take. Roads are generally not paved and passing vehicles throw rocks and gravel in addition to drivers having no regard for ‘White Boy’s’ safety.
