What are some safe places to travel in Africa?
Question by Nadia: What are some safe places to travel in Africa?
I want to go on a trip to Africa this summer, to uncover some more about my family history, something under 0…But I wanna stay away from war, and human traffikers. Any suggestions? Obviously, I have to be aware WHEREVER I go…But in general…Where’s there safe travel?

I hope by under 0 you mean without airfare. If so then you’re in pretty good shape about anywhere. I lived in Uganda for two years. I love the place. Not as developed and touristy as Kenya, but absolutely gorgeous. Travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park by way of Mbarara and you’ll just be blown away by the absolute beauty as you come up to the escarpment at the edge of the park. My favorite place in the world is Lake Bunyoni, near Kabale. Stay at Bushara Island. Quiet, peaceful, and out of this world beautiful. You can also raft the Nile River in Jinja and see some of the world’s few remaining Mountain Gorillas in Bwindi National Park. Murchison Falls, where the Nile is channeled down into this tiny rock gap to make an incredible waterfall, is awesome.
You can go to Kenya or Tanzania and see a lot more wildlife at places like Maasi Mara or the Serengetti, but Uganda can’t be beat for natural beauty and affordability. That and it’s home to the world’s friendliest people, hands down.

Ghana has an extremely low crime rate and is very tranquil, so that would be a good one to consider if safety is the number one concern. I will say though, that most African countries are safe as long as they are not active war zones and in the news for it all the time (e.g. Somalia). Tourists are almost never targeted because the small-time criminals are too scared of what a foreign government can do to them for harming one of it’s citizens. It would probably be best for you to go with a tour group since you won’t have any contacts at your destination. Also, assuming $500 doesn’t include airfare, then you’re good to go. Otherwise, it wouldn’t even get you a one way ticket.
$ 500?? and in the summer?? man, you can’t even go to Hawaii and stay for 1night for $500….if u are broke, don’t go!
