Any place that may cost you your life can not be classed as a cheap destination.
SA sees over 50 murders a day (twice that if you take the more reliable figures of Interpol into account) and anywhere between 200 and 1500 rapes a day, that´s 1.5 million a year or one every 17 seconds.
There have been many cases of tourists being attacked, mugged and raped in tourist spots all over SA this year.
These are the facts and not unbased opinions.
Some may have opinions about whether South Africa is a good holiday destination or not, however decisions should always be based on fact.
There are many benefiting from tourism in SA, they would have you visit SA without Googling or Youtubing “crime south africa”,
but do they have yours and SA´s best interests at heart?
South Africans who care are trying to get the government to acknowledge and do something about the crime epidemic that SA is experiencing.
Do yourself a favour and do some research before you go so that you may keep you and yours safe and be wary of those catch phrases like “yes there is crime in South Africa but there is crime everywhere” and “just take precautions as you would in any big city in the world”.
South Africa is unique, our crime is prolific, usually has a bloody finale and is not limited only to adults – a third of all rapes are perpetrated on children.
Buccaneers in Cinsta: one of the most beautiful places in the world, on the Wild Coast…we go every trip we are home in SA from N Ireland .. even for our honeymoon… accomodation at Bucaneers ranges from : camping, to dorms to private en suite units overlloking the indian ocean to upmarket tented units…just blissful…if ur wont have ur own transport than a cheap option is the BazBus … cheap overland bus for travelers , nice & safe depart from most towns and cities and even little places and will drop u right at the door of most hostels, Bucaneers included, check out their website… enjoy…
Ticklefinger. I agree that the wild coast is a stunning place with beautiful scenery however it is a EXTREMELY dangerous place. Its a hot spot for muggings murders and rapes of tourists. Try somewhere that is a little more populated. Margate is about 30km away and much safer. Make the wild coast a day trip with a group of people. Safety in numbers…
sorry but “nice” and “cheap” dont go together …
a friend got a cheap holiday to Margate and brought back cockroaches to her house. Then spent hundreds of rands trying to get rid of them.
however, look up http://www.citylodge.co.za/ and then buy your accomodation at a cheaper price here http://www.bid2stay.co.za/
We had a weekend at Sandton once and it was not too expensive at R200 per night. (2 people)
Protea hotels http://www.proteahotels.com/ are nice and clean, best ones I have been in are Gold Reef City – expensive at about R1000 a night and Stellenbosch at about R600 per night (family of 5)
Hello this is MR Cash
Why dont you squat?
You could sleep in a shack, eat maize meal, steal, rape,
Then you could run home and tell everyone that Bono needs money to give to Africa!
