Hi!
I’m sure they’d enjoy the Valley of Waves when you go to Sun City. They also have a great holiday program if you go in the SA school holiday time.
If you go to KwaZulu Natal, Durban area, they would just LOVE Ushaka marine world. You can spend the whole day there. There is SO much to do. Most beaches in the area are also very very nice, esp Umhlanga and Ballito. (Nice kiddies bathing area at Ballito beach). The water is also warmer than the water in the Cape. There are animal parks, bird parks and very nice restaurants. To stay, I’d recommend somewhere in Ballito or Umhlanga, not Durban central.
You’d have to drive or fly to Durban though.
Tanya R has it spot on.Sun City is gr8.The kids will absolutely have a ball. There is the Valley of the Waves and Camp kwena.
You will not go wrong. If I were u I’d do a few days at Sun City and then a week or longer in Kwa Zulu Natal-Umhlanga or Ballito. You will love it!!
We holiday there every year, since my kids were babies.
I agree with the others here, although even your 2 year old likely won’t remember much of it. Typically kids at age 4 or 5 will remember more from “seeing the sights,” after a decade.
Definitely Sun City, and of course they do have the Pilanesburg Park right next door, which your toddler might enjoy for seeing the animals.

In Johannesburg there is the Lion Park near Randburg. It is approx 20/30 minutes from the city, and you can drive through it in your car. They also have an area where you can hold the lion cubs. This is an amazing place. I have taken many visitors there – it is so close to the city (basically on the perimeter of the metro area now). They have upgraded the park in recent years as well, so you might want to try to book accommodation in the park. Nothing like hearing the lions roar in the adjacent (fenced-off) area.

At the coast the family might enjoy the beach. West coast beaches are cold-water, and East coast beaches are warm water due to the different ocean currents.
