I have heard a few atheists claiming this world would be a better world without religion. Do you ever stop and think about the downside though? They claim that a lot of violence and religion wouldn’t happen. Without religion though the world as we know it would be greatly changed. First we made America to get religious freedom. So there goes America and all American holidays. Also if you look at almost every holiday it has some religious background so there goes almost every holiday. Christmas, Easter, and Halloween would definitely be gone. Without America there would be no slaves so all black people would be dieing of disease and famine in Africa. Without America ever being made who knows how many inventions might have never been made. There would be no telephone, light bulb, and many peanut products without George Washington Carver. So there might not have been as much fighting, but so many inventions, holidays, and people might have never been. Also would we have been able to win the wars that were not based on religion without America? So would a world without religion really be better and why?

I personally think that the world is better off with religion. The problem with any religion now is the tolerance for diversity for those different from them. Diversity is what keeps this world more interesting than if everyone believed in nothing. It breeds culture and traditions in many different people. Religion also gives many people a sense of purpose, for some a reason for living. So religion, no matter what it is, is a good thing. The only thing that the world needs to work on is tolerance.
