It will be sunny but the water is very cold, and it’s really only warmer from October

There are two sets of beaches – those on the Atlantic coast of South Africa and those on the Indian Ocean Coast. The Atlantic ones are to me, always cold; the Indian Ocean ones always comparatively warmer. There is a look out at Cape Point where, on a clear day, you can see where the two oceans come together. When the icy Atlantic meets the warm Indian you can see a line with it looking black on one side and blue on the other. Quite a sight – well I thought it was! Anyway, I did enough swimming in the Atlantic in Canada to know that I always and forever will prefer to swim in the Indian Ocean

October is on the boarder line – if Winter is a long one – which I believe it will be – the weather will definitely not be great on the beach – keep in mind that the Cape is prone to Strong winds which start about that time and continue through to end of December…
If at all possible I would try and postpone the holiday for at least a month – as the beaches really are great – Bikini Beach (Strand), Camps Bay, Clifton 1,2,3 – are the most amazing beaches in the world…
Beware the South Easter, Beware the South Easter
It still will be cold
and no matter what month it is summer or winter the ocean will still be cold.
Have fun – Seriously SA is the best place in the world! Lucky You!
The water might be a bit cool, but the sunshine will be warm enough to sunbathe.
There should be a fair amount of sunshine, but you can’t expect very hot days.
I guess it really depends what you are used to — I’ve had British guests who thought mid winter here was balmy and that we locals were real softies for complaining.
