Nelson Mandela Bay – uniting Port Elizabeth, Uitenhage and Despatch Nelson Mandela: humanitarian, activist, icon to the world and towering figure of the twentieth century. Now a destination has been named after him – the only geographical area that has been allowed to do so: Nelson Mandela Bay, incorporating the beautiful and historic old city of Port Elizabeth and the towns of Uitenhage and Despatch. Situated on the south-eastern tip of Africa, Nelson Mandela Bay boasts 40 km of magnificent golden beaches, washed by the warm water of the Indian Ocean. The city’s breathtaking seashore and protected beaches of international standard and excellent accommodation facilities lure thousands of visitors to its shores every year. As a major seaport for passing ships on their way to the East in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the Bay’s waters have over 400 shipwrecks, making it a diver’s delight. Offering virtually unlimited opportunities for watersports enthusiasts, the Bay is known as Africa’s Watersports Capital. A must-see on any itinerary is the Red Location Museum of Struggle. This multi-award winning museum, which was opened in November 2006, commemorates South Africa’s turbulent apartheid history and long struggle for freedom. Nelson Mandela Bay carries the rich legacy of an area which saw the first meetings of the Khoisan, British, Dutch, German and Xhosa people. @jxharding1980. It’s not supposed to cover the whole province. Its a promotional video for the city

  6. coastalretro Jul 30th 2010

Really wonderful visuals & beautifully put together. Sadly let down by the copy (slightly pretentious) & voiceover, which didn’t really work. Sounded a bit too much like a Lux advert.

@neurocidesakiwi – you probably should get out a bit more. Everything in the video was shot in NMB according to The Herald so at minimum we have that many good looking people. I know we have a lot more.

Ummm, I’ve lived in PE most of my life. And I can promise you, we don’t have that many good looking people

  9. jxharding1980 Jul 30th 2010

when will the investment and 10minute version be available?
this one was good, but focused on a small stretch of coastline most of the time, not indicative of the full province, but one prob wont be able to do something better with such limited time. look forward to seeing the others

Mmm well done! I am so proud to be living it up in the Bay!

  11. erenei7 Jul 30th 2010

This is the short version. There is also an investment one and a 10 minute one with all the things you mention.

  12. lisarobertsart Jul 30th 2010

@MrMeridianMedia : the producers are ROOFTOP PRODUCTIONS.

  13. lisarobertsart Jul 30th 2010

WOW – this is just incredible! We need more of this!! It needs to be on TV — across the GLOBE!! Thank you for doing our country proud :)

    great footage, technically well executed.

But where are all the people? The Metro has a population of roughly 1.5mil – all one sees are stylised scenes with actors.
What about crowd-puller events and jobs which sustain the city, like Ironman and Splash; the shopping malls, automotive exports, bustling streets, and holiday crowds?

  15. MrMeridianMedia Jul 30th 2010

Congrats to the producers, very well done!

  16. mcainshg Jul 30th 2010
