Going on Holiday, should I get a credit card?
Question by Klis: Going on Holiday, should I get a credit card?
Im off on holiday for 3 weeks to the Southern Africa and parts of the Middle East.
All I have at present is a Debit Card. But I know that that won’t work out there
I am unfamiliar with Credit cards and never really looked into them or how they work?
I will only be using it for the trip and not when I get home… Its my understanding that normal credit cards need to be topped up every month or something?
Can anyone suggest a good one for short holidays or an alternative for the occasion?
Links would be appreciated!
Kind regards and thanks in advance

Answer by no problem
Normal credit card is ok as long as you dont go into credit.

that’s not a good idea, take your money out (however much you want) exchange it at the airport then get an ID neck holder and carry it on you, credit cards=debt if your not careful
your best bet is get a credit card yeah it will be very usefull in emergencys but make sure you make a note of the quickest way to cancel the card in case it gets lost or stolen .. your best bet is to take Travellers Cheques to be honest
Ask your financial institution if they offer Debit Visa’s.
Problem solved!
yes, credit card is good you should really get one.
it aids in the redistribution of wealth when the africans rob you and withdraw out your max credit limit.think of all those hungry little african skeletons you’ll be saving, think of how grateful all those underpaid workers will be to you when the robbers spread your wealth.
it can also save your life.just imagine,if someone robs you,and you dont have any money.he might probably kill you.so having a credit card, they can at least withdraw some money from it and probably let you off with one less limb.
conclusion:get one,get one now
Well honestly it depends where your traveling to in the Middle East I know Kuwait, Qatar, and Dubai all take any form of debit or credit card. But check with your bank and see if they charge for international use some banks do.
South Africa one of my good friends is from their and he says don’t even think of taking a credit card with you. Most places don’t accept them and if they do their going to steal money from you.
So with the question on how to use a credit card you go to capitalone.com, americanexpress.com, discover.com the list is unlimited you apply and if approved you card will get to you generally in 10days.
As far as “topping off” Im not sure what that refers to maybe your bill?
If so yes you will get a statement every month make sure you pay this bill if not your going to hurt yourself.
They will give you your statement balance(how much you charged up), they will also give you the minimum payment you can elect to pay the minimum not recommended though. Always try to pay more than the minimum.
But check into the terms and conditions of the card before applying.
I.E. annual fees, interest rates,monthly fees,REWARDS,etc.
But good luck and enjoy your vacation!!!
